Last weekend we attended the LRBA Fall Festival and Youth Scholarship Show at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, La. Peyton was busy with a JROTC competition, so Addison agreed to help her get her rabbits on the table for her. I hate that Peyton couldn’t be there though, because she received the win that she has been waiting on!
Peyton’s seal senior lionhead doe finally won her final senior leg that she needed to get her grand champion certificate. She has been wanting to breed this doe for some time now in hopes of having some babies off of her to show at Lionhead Nationals in the spring. For whatever reason there are never enough exhibitors or seals to show against in order for anyone to win the leg, so we have to hope to win BOB or BOSV. AND SHE FINALLY GOT IT!
It was a miserably cold weekend, which is not normal for this time of year in Louisiana. There were so many times that we were tempted to pack up and go home. But we knew the LRBA Fall Festival and Youth Scholarship Show HAD to be the show that we would either pick up the final senior leg, or we would breed her without granding her. Thankfully we toughed it out!
Here are the LRBA Fall Festival Show results:
2022 LRBA Fall Festival Open Wool Wars Show:
- Cadbury, a Seal Junior Buck Lionhead, won BOV out of 9 seals under judge Tonna Thomas.
- Slate, a Solid Senior AFL, won 1st place out of 5 solid senior bucks, and then went on to take BOV and BOSB out of seven total rabbits under judge Josh Humphries.
2022 LRBA Fall Festival Youth Scholarship Show:
- Captain Hook, a Tort Junior Buck Lionhead, took BOSV out of 6 torts under judge Frank Farrow.
- Sapphire, the Seal Senior Doe Lionhead took BOV out of 8 seals and BOB out of 43 total rabbits under judge Frank Farrow. We are celebrating this one for sure. I am sending in her legs for her grand champion certificate.
- Cadbury, a Seal Junior Buck Lionhead that I bumped up to the senior class won BOV out of 6 Seals under judge Tonna Thomas. This finished him out as well, and he is ready to be registered and granded!!
We are walking away from this show with not one but TWO grand champions! We were so focused on getting that last leg for Sapphire that we totally didn’t even realize that Cadbury could also finish out.
Our next show will be in December in Texas, and fingers crossed that we can finish out Slate and Captain Hook as well. We have quite a few juniors to put on the show table next month! Then on to the Cherry Pie Extravaganza in February! In March we will be attending our first ever Lionhead Nationals Show in Dalton, Ga. Things are getting real!
I didn’t get pictures of ALL of our wins. It can be a little hectic when you are trying to help youth get rabbits on the table while also trying to volunteer at the show to write for judges. But I did manage to grab a couple.
